Deworming

In order to protect your pet from parasites such as worms, they need to be given deworming treatments. These can come in different forms – oral tablets, liquids, pastes, injections and topical creams – and you can have a say in the treatment that will work best for you, your pet and your shared lifestyle. How often should I deworm my dog/cat/pet?

Although every patient is different, we highly recommend that they are dewormed at least 4 times per year. Puppies, kittens and other baby pets usually require a more rigorous deworming treatment during their younger years (e.g. once per month until they are approximately 6-months-old). Contrary to popular misconceptions, pets also still need protection from worms even in the winter and colder seasons.

What are signs that my dog/cat/pet has worms?

Treating worm infestations in your pets is particularly challenging because symptoms do not usually appear until their infection is in the more severe or later stages. Here are some of the most common signs indicating that your pet may have worms. If you notice any of these symptoms, please schedule an appointment with us immediately.

• Visible worms in their stool

How do dogs/cats/pets get worms?

Our loyal companions can catch worms from a variety of environments. Pets can be infected when they dig through or sift through leaves, grass, dirt, trash and the poop of other animals. Pets who spend time with other pets can also be vulnerable to worms, which they may contract when playing or sniffing their fellow furry friends.
